A regional well-known veteran, entrepreneur and a significant key figure of the energy industry, Eng. Khaled brings in 38 years of diverse and successful achievements in the gas industry, playing a key role in the development of the gas and power private sectors in Egypt, Africa and the Middle East regions. In 1997, Eng. AbuBakr co-founded GENCO (Gas & Energy Company) that was later acquired and incorporated under TAQA Arabia’s umbrella which he also co-founded in 2006. Eng. AbuBakr Served as TAQA Arabia’s CEO until 2013 when he was appointed as the Chairman holding this position to date. Prior to 1997, and for 13 years, Eng. AbuBakr worked with several international companies and held several executive positions in Egypt’s state-owned energy companies, encompassing roles from gas project management to developing Egypt’s gas infrastructure. He is the Chairman of the Egyptian Gas association, President of the Italian Egyptian Business Council as well as being a significant Board member in several industrial companies listed in Egypt’s Stock exchange. He previously served as board member of “Industry Modernization Centre”, as well as “Industry Development Authorities” and served 4 times as vice president of American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt. Eng. AbuBakr holds B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Cairo University and an MBA in Management of Oil and Gas companies from Montreal University. He completed the “Reform and Privatization Program” at Harvard University and a Diploma in “International Oil and Gas Financial Management” from the University of Texas. Eng. AbuBakr also serves in the Board of the International Gas Union since 2009 to 2022 and is appointed as its Regional Coordinator for Africa and the Middle East for the last 12 years. Eng AbuBakr has been bestowed the decoration of “Cavaliere dell'Ordine della Stella d’Italia” by the Italian president Sergio Mattarella in recognition of his significant contribution and efforts in consolidating economic ties between Italy and Egypt.
A significant affiliate to the Egyptian energy market and a notably respected member of the local business community, Mrs. Pakinam Kafafi, has nearly 26 years of experience within the Energy and Investment Banking sectors. She assumed leadership of TAQA Arabia as Chief Executive Officer in 2013. Mrs. Kafafi was one of the founding cornerstones of TAQA Arabia in 2006 when she served as the Chief Investment officer. She successfully contributed to the group’s evolution by acquiring and consolidating several gas distribution companies of BG, ENI, Edison and AMEC. In addition, she led the group’s business diversification strategy into Power Generation and Distribution and later orchestrated TAQA Arabia penetration to the Renewable Energy market. Before TAQA Arabia’s incorporation, Mrs. Kafafi served as the Investment General Manager for Genco Group starting 2003. In her role as Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Kafafi provides strategic planning and operational leadership to optimize the company’s growth. Her expertise and proven track record as an efficient and talented leader are invaluable for TAQA Arabia. Before joining TAQA Arabia she held the position of Vice President at EFG‐Hermes Investment Banking a leading regional investment institution, where she successfully participated in various acquisitions and privatization projects in Egypt. In 2022, and for the third consecutive year, Mrs. Kafafi was chosen as one of the 50 Most Powerful Businesswomen in the Middle East where she holds the 21st position. Mrs. Kafafi was also chosen to be one of the Top Fifty Women performing in Egypt besides being recently nominated by the global economics magazine for being the best CEO in Energy Sector. She is also a long-standing member of the American Chamber of Commerce and the British Egyptian Business Association (BEBA).
Peter Mofeed has been with TAQA Arabia Strategy & Investment Department since May 2010. Prior to joining TAQA, he was a Manager with Ezz Steel, at Corporate Finance Department. His focus was to evaluate new projects and arrange the necessary finance for all the Group's subsidiaries. Prior to that, Peter spent 8 years with Commercial International Bank (CIB) in both Corporate & investment Banking departments covering various industries. His last assignment was with CI Investment Banking (which is an advisory firm formed by CIB) where he was Vice President.
Ms. Hala Abou Bakr is a financial & investment veteran with 40 years’ experience in the Gas business. Her experience spans the whole gas industry working in various state and private owned operators. Ms Hala worked in several senior positions in Petrojet, Petrogas and Egypt Gas. During this period, Hala delivered various high impact initiatives such as setting up the nation-wide Domestic Gas Metering Payment Systems and the Geographic Information System for the national gas grid. Building on the strong rapport established during her earlier career years, Hala shifted to the private sector and became one of the founding members of “GENCO group” as well as the first private LDC in 1996 “City Gas”. As CFO of TAQA Arabia’s Gas division as well as the chairwoman for City gas since 2006, Ms. Hala grew the company further after the TAQA Gas acquisition into the largest gas distribution company in Egypt. Hala’s duties covers TAQA gas group with financial, commercial and legal responsibilities for seven companies covering gas distribution, EPC and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). In addition, Hala is a founding, CFO and board member of the Egyptian Gas Association. In 2018, Hala received the prestigious Egypt’s “Top 50 Women” Award, in a strong recognition of her distinguished impact on the Egyptian economy.
Eng. El-Hawary joined City Gas Co. (Member of TAQA Arabia) since 2005, as Deputy Managing Director, soon promoted to the post of Managing Director for Technical Affairs. In his capacity, he supervised the execution of City Gas Projects for supplying Natural Gas to over a million of Domestic and Industrial Customers as well as Electric Power Generating Plants, achieving and maintaining ISO Level Standards of Productivity and Quality Assurance. Previously, he spent almost six (6) years as Project Manager At House Gas Co. (Member of TAQA Arabia), supervising Gas Network Construction. Mr. El-Hawary has a wide spectrum technical background extended since the year 1985 when he was recruited as a site engineer by Egypt Gas Co.
Hassan EL Gamal joined TAQA Gas Company since March 2010; since then, he has directed and managed the company’s financial functions, the commercial, legal, and administrative departments, as well as, he oversees the nontechnical operations among our areas and expansion, ensures smooth and professional workflow at sites to remain consistent and aligned with the organizational goals, and managed the implementation of ERP and merging of City Gas, NVGC, and Repco into TAQA Gas. El Gamal also evaluates current and new projects and provides the necessary financial advice and recommendations to ensure that the company’s goals/priorities achieved. Previously, Mr. Hassan spent 10 years at the audit field, working at KPMG Hazem Hassan where he got promoted to Deputy Audit Manager, he was providing audit and business advisory services to a large portfolio of clients. Hassan has also participated in the audit of several clients in the consumer and industrial markets including Nestle, Heinz, General Motors Egypt, and Shell Marketing. Besides, he has an extensive awareness of the international and Egyptian accounting and auditing standards.
Holds a BSC in Mechanical Engineering, 1984 with MBA in 1990. He has got a vast experience extended for more than 30 years in Industrial Management including Sales, Marketing, Commercial, Distribution, Supply Chain and International Trade. He spent more than 22 years in international posts with diverse teams and diverse geographies. He has been an Executive Committee member for the last 20 years and a Board Member for the last 15 years. Before joining Taqa Group in 2016 he has spent the previous 11 years of his career with Lafarge in Pakistan, Nigeria and Egypt. His last post was General Manager of Lafarge Cement Egypt and before that he was the Managing Director and CEO of Lafarge WAPCO Nigeria. Samy takes a personal interest and utmost responsibility of health and safety of everyone working or making business with the organization he leads.
Mr. Khaled joined TAQA Power as Chief Financial Officer in November 2012 responsible for the overall financial strategy and direction , leading the Organization financial planning, accounting practices and the company's relationship with lending institutions, shareholders and the financial community in addition the management of the Administration Area within the organization is a part of Mr. Khaled scope. Prior to joining TAQA Power, Mr. Khaled held several financial management roles within TAQA Gas Regional Sector, MENA (UAE, Qatar & Libya), Mashreq petroleum and TAQA Gas. Mr. Khaled is a Certified Management Accountant by the institute of Certified Management Accountants, Montvale, New Jersey, USA, since 2007.
Eng. Nafea Joined TAQA In 2008, After A 21 Year-Long Career In Oil Marketing With Mobil Oil Egypt, Mobil Oil Morocco, And ExxonMobil Egypt. He Rose To The Positions Of President And Fuels Marketing Manager Of Mobil Oil Morocco And Retail Marketing Manager Of ExxonMobil Egypt. In The Latter Capacity, He Led The Marketing And Sales Of Fuels, Convenience Products And Other Back Court Offers Through A Retail Chain Of 409 Outlets.
Effective October 2014, Mohamed Elbeyaly, Joined TAQA Petroleum. Mohamed is a CFO with more than nineteen years of experience in finance, Tax, Cost controlling and audit in industrial and oil & Gas business. Prior to join TAQA Petroleum, He was Manager in Lafarge Cement Egypt in Finance department responsible for different Managerial leadership roles including Cost controlling and Country tax controls for Lafarge Group subsidiaries in Egypt. Prior to that Mohamed was in KPMG Egypt since 2001, where he held several roles in the audit sector.
Eng. Hany Ezzat , General Manager of TAQA Water, with expertise exceeding 15 years in the water treatment field based on a high experienced track-record of water treatment projects is experienced in turning low-performing organizations into top revenue producers. Before TAQA Water, Eng. Ezzat was the Projects, Operations & Procurement senior Director where he managed over 90,000 M3/Day plants. Eng. Ezzat holds Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, majored in Mechatronics and Industrial Engineering, he also holds Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Cairo University & MBA, Master of Business Administration.
Mr. Tarek El-Lethy joined Genco in 1998 as a Financial Manager. His leadership skills enabled him throughout the year to reach the position of CFO for TAQA EPC Sector then Deputy Managing Director for TAQA Gas Services & QGG (Qatar Gas Group), then he was promoted to Finance & Admin Managing Director. Mr. Tarek also holds the position of CFO for TAQA Water, TAQA’s subsidiary responsible for all water treatments and desalination services and activities. Mr. Tarek’s financial and analytical experience had enabled him to contribute to the company’s overall successful milestones. He was also a key person participating in the establishment of several companies acquired by TAQA Arabia such as Genco, House Gas, City Gas & Master Gas. Mr. Tarek’s financial background and leadership skills allow him the capabilities of preparing and developing feasibility studies for TAQA Water and have a great input in the current and future business plans to assess new projects and propose new investments opportunities
